🗣️ Take Action - Make Your Voice Heard: Why Complaints Matter
Shining a Light on Hidden Objections, Dismissed Reports, and the Weight of Speaking Up
🗣️ Start a Paper Trail that Holds Power
The importance of making complaints and holding corporations accountable cannot be overstated. As we’ve seen with Johnson & Johnson and other industries, the systems in place often fail to protect consumers from harmful products.
Regulatory bodies such as the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), Office of Fair Trading (OFT), Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and local councils are established to protect the public interest—but too often, responsibility is redirected, or a lack of complaint volume is cited as a reason not to investigate.
In light of ongoing issues such as the Johnson & Johnson talc scandal, it’s clear that complaints and advocacy are key to bringing about real change. Whether you’re dealing with unsafe products or unethical business practices, the power to drive change lies in every complaint filed.
Here’s how you can get involved:
If you suspect misuse or abuse of the system, the ATO provides a confidential Tip-Off Line where you can report concerns.
Call the ATO tip-off hotline on 1800 060 062 or go to www.ato.gov.au/SFCT for further information.
How to report an environmental issue to the Queensland EPA:
1. Use the Pollution Hotline:
Call 1300 130 372 for all environmental emergencies.
This hotline is available 24/7.
2. Report Online:
Complete an environmental report online from your desktop or mobile device.
You can also find information on reporting pollution on the Queensland Government website.
3. For Ongoing Issues:
Complete an odour log sheet (DOCX, 153 KB) or noise log sheet (DOCX, 184 KB).
Attach the completed log sheet to the online reporting form or email it to pollutionhotline@des.qld.gov.au.
Note that the email is only monitored during business hours (8.30am to 5.00pm).
Whistleblowers and Complainants are critical in bringing about change.
Every Complaint Filed adds to the Collective Voice that can Force Investigations and Raise Awareness about issues that are often Hidden from the Public.
This is why complaints matter—even if it seems like your voice is being dismissed or you learn people perceive you as a whinger.
In addition, the public holds the right to request audits and call for formal inquiries.
Whether or not your objection or complaint is acted upon immediately, it is still important that it is formally lodged. Once submitted, it becomes part of the official record—creating a trail of accountability and making your concerns harder to ignore.
Don’t let second guessing, pressure, miscommunication or misrepresentation dissuade you from speaking out. Your voice matters, and change begins with one step.
We must continue to amplify our concerns, demand transparency, and ensure that businesses are held accountable. In doing so, we not only protect ourselves but also safeguard future generations from hidden dangers and exploitative practices.
So, if you’ve experienced harmful products or unethical practices, don’t hesitate—make your voice heard through the proper channels, and let your complaint be part of the solution.
It’s not enough to make careful choices in our homes—we must also hold corporations accountable for the products they sell and the actions they take.
Your voice matters—whether in the products you choose or in the stand you take against corporate wrongdoing. Speak up, take action, and be part of the movement for accountability.
It Starts With Us, and Together, We Can Make a Difference.
